"Writing from the Wound. Speaking from the Soul."
Born in Flint, Michigan and raised in Rockford, Illinois, I walked a path few could imagine—one marked by adversity, awakening, and the relentless pursuit of purpose. Once labeled a troubled child, I grew up navigating a tumultuous world shaped by gang involvement, deep-seated anger, and the painful weight of feeling “less than” due to early learning challenges. But even in the chaos, there was a quiet voice calling me to something more.
With sheer determination and faith-driven resilience, I taught myself to sharpen my literacy skills—transforming fragmented words into powerful verses that now speak to healing, manhood, and spiritual growth. My work as a poet, storyteller, and civil servant became a vehicle for expressing hard truths, emotional struggles, and the victories that follow personal transformation.
I am a very proud father of six and grandfather of seven, and my family is the heartbeat of my evolution. Their presence has not only deepened my faith but also expanded my capacity for self-awareness, emotional accountability, and leadership. I give a special honor to my mother who never stopped loving and supporting me even in my darkest hour.
In 2006, I shattered the stereotype of the absent Black father by gaining custody of my three youngest children—an act that solidified my role as a man of action and spiritual integrity.
My educational and professional path is a testament to grit, vision, and redemption. I earned my GED in 1999, and later went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree (GPA 3.0) and a Master’s degree (GPA 3.8)—each a mile marker of my unwavering commitment to growth.
In my career, I’ve made a lasting impact in the Human Services field, climbing the ranks through promotions that reflect my leadership, compassion, and commitment to community. My work in this space runs parallel to my writing, with both fueled by a desire to serve, uplift, and empower others.
As a published poet and faith-driven author, I’ve been honored to receive awards for my literary work and heartfelt contributions to poetry about healing, growth, and real-life reflection. My books, including A Journey into Manhood from the Path of an Idiot and When the Tears Fall, blend raw honesty with spiritual insight, offering readers a mirror and a message: You are not alone in your struggle, and your story still matters.
I created Spiritually Voiced as a platform for connection—for those seeking to explore their story, their faith, and their healing through the written word. Whether you're here to read, reflect, share, or simply breathe for a moment, my hope is that you leave feeling seen, strengthened, and spiritually supported.
My voice is not one of perfection—it’s one of truth, transparency, and transformation.
